Handmade Film - Luther Price

Summer Institute Workshop:
Handmade Film with Luther Price

June 26 - 30, 2017
M - F, 9:30am - 5:30pm

This course will approach the making of 16mm film as a sculptural process, considering film as a material that is expressed in light, motion, and time. Using a hands-on approach, we will work with a variety of materials to paint, scratch, print, design, and project moving images. Students will work with existing “found” footage as well as create their own 16mm black and white films. We will think about film as a language and poetry in movement, using film and the decapitation of film to reconstitute the format through the most unconventional ways.

Luther Price lives and works in Revere, MA. He studied Sculpture and Media/Performing Arts at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (BFA 1987) where he currently teaches. His work in film, performance, and installation has been shown extensively, nationally and internationally including at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Transmediale in Berlin, MoMA/PS1, the ICA, London, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
